Spy shots! 2008 Chevrolet Silverado
Autoblog tipster Jai pointed us in the direction of a pristine set of spy shots of the new Chevy Silverado, completely uncloaked. The GMT900-based new Silverado is clearly differentiated from its SUV siblings, but early comments on various message boards are mixed. Check out the full photos here, and tell us what you think.[Source: speedsportlife.com]

Front - excellent
Sides - not so good - too "lumpy"
Rear - not good at all

It's like Chevy took the blandest bits from all the trucks, over all the years, and stuck them on the outside of the blandest cardboard box they could find. They then formed a focus group to make sure this truck offends no one's sensibilities, and further hacked away any sort of memorable design elements.
Seriously, there is nothing about this truck that would make me give it a second glance. Entirely forgettable.
But, if that was what they were aiming for... They nailed it.

Mixed reviews? Looks solid to me on the outside- evolutionary, clearly modern. I don't thing the exterior of the current version was a problem either. For this truck to pass Ford's F150, it's going to need continued engine advantages and a damned fine interior. Until we see better pictures of the inside (I'm not referring to the poor quality ones attributed to the upcoming Sierra), it will be hard to get too excited one way or the other.

I just want to state that I hate the over-inflated, bloated look afflicting most pickups. I'd trash Chevy for it, but Ford, Nissan and now Toyota are just as guilty, and were doing it first. Only the Dakota looks like a reasonably handsome truck... until you realize this is Dodge's idea of a compact truck. Bleah.
Apart from the bloat factor (look how tiny the wheels look!), it's not a good sign that you can pick out the body gaps from a low-res interent promotional photo. You could fit a deck of cards in the slot between the hood and the fender...
Not auspicious.

Wow, that grill looks a lot like the current Ford Explorer. Sure you want to go that route GM?

Great. If ever I need to transport heavy weights while traversing very rough ground with four friends who share my lack of concern for my fellow man I'll buy a Silverado.

The cab looks unproportionally tall. The front end looks pretty nice, but aside from that it looks like they just bulked everything up, not really in a good way. It almost looks like a monster truck when they're running on those 35" tires used for transporting.

From these shots, I see a bloated Tacoma with a Chevy face. I'll wait to see it in person to pass final judgement however.

I don't know guys, it looks like a prop car from the fast and the furious - offroad sequel... and I'm sure I'd bingle the front bumper in no time.
Does anyone have any originality anymore?
I'll stick with my 01 jeep, at least I can trust that it's crap.

I don't know how many of you drive pick-ups, but I do, and I think it is a beautiful truck. Watch how it sells, it's gonna put up some big numbers.

This is a flare side, which means it is going to look fat and round no matter what you do. I like this truck as it blended the old with the new very well. it does not look like a completely different path to walk down, but now somebody started taking care of the dirt road.
The bold front grille is typical Chevy, and tells people to move out of the way or get run over. (nice)
The Back is just like any P/U which is good because these are not cars, and not SUVs. A P/U is for hauling 2x4's and sheetrock or an ATV or your new hog (motorcycle for the rest of us).
I would expect this truck to fly off the shelves especially with the active fuel management system GM now employees in most of their V8's.
I wonder what the HD will look like in 08/09... Can't wait to haul my boat in style and a bowtie!

An improvement over the current Silverado which was definitely starting to look dated. The front reminds a bit of the Land Rover LR3, especially in the way the material of the grill (chrome) continues vertically down to the bumper.

I'm almost positive that gap in the hood is from the hood being popped. I wonder if they'll finally use the 6 speed auto in a Silverado.

reminds me a little of a horse designed by committee (you call that a camel?).

I am really disappointed, this is the exciting new design that's going to save the company?(yawn)Looks pretty much like the same old bland, inoffensive truck as before.

never mind the looks. the fact that it is american designed makes it a non starter for anyone who cares about quality. looks like another bloated design from the designers at GM who seem to seem to like old heavy designs like the old soviet union produced. this will drive more buyers into the Toyota showroom.
